I would be curious to see what would happen if they ever did a straightforward MV with a lesbian storyline - like wish tree but without it being subtext, something that explicitly shows two women as a couple. If the reaction to Tilt was anything to go by it's a double edged sword. On one hand there's the conservative people that take issue with anything sexual or gay, but on the other hand there's real LGBT people that don't appreciate or take anything coming from a big conservative and low-key Christian corporation like SM at face value because at the end of the day they're just making money off it and don't actually do anything to help out or even spotlight the actual queer community in SK. As nice as it is for us as shippers to see them do a concept like Tilt, there's valid arguments in critique of it. Some think it helps normalize, others don't. And I fear ultimately the 'Company' of it all will always be an aspect that turns people off and makes people question the sincerity behind it.

This whole misusing of the word queerbaiting and fake concern is just the new acceptable way to be homophobic and against anything not straight in kpop.

All actual gay people love gay concepts especially when they are catered to women and made by women like seulrene did it's explicit lesbian media and lesbian representation. They are extremely brave for doing that and we are grateful for it. They even had to fight their company because unlike the woke homophobes like to push companies in south korea don't push homosexuality.

Seulrene pushed homosexuality against their CEO wishes because it meant something for them.

I also love it when they give us content like that, I literally said I'm a shipper why would you think I'm a troll? Not once did I even use the word queerbaiting in my post. This is a serious discussion to me so I guess my bad for thinking there's anons here willing to talk about what the post above me was talking about in terms of people being open minded and creating an environment where idols feel more free to show themselves. It's tricky but publicity is still publicity. We know corporate use the community for profit in many cases, but it is business at the end of the day. In exchange, we need the representation.

I remember on Reddit people were having a heated debate whether TILT was queerbaiting or not. Sure, real people can't queerbait in the original context, but language evolves and it can be applied to some extent, especially if it involves big entertainment industry.

Many people defended Aseul. My personal take is, and the people who defended them shared the same sentiment as me, that we need to take any chance to promote our community. People fetishizing lesbians and GBTQ+ in any shape or form anyway, so might as well go all out and express ourselves freely.

It's a valid concern, but people evolve as well no matter how long it takes. Public opinion can be swayed by the media they watch, so I believe making it mainstream is one of the ways to make wlw representation more acceptable, as 'Company' aspect as it sounds.

Seulrene fight in their own ways against the conservative corporate AND society in their country. Let's hope the future is better for the queer community in SK so they can speak freely. But we shouldn't put the weight on their shoulders because they are more at risk (eg: harassment, physical attack, the safety of their family and friends, and so on).

Thanks for responding. I can see that certain things are changing with some groups and even with that bg member being able to come out and his members supporting him. A lot of the comments I saw were concerned about the harm he caused to the company and his group by doing what he did so spontaneously and that he was selfish. But he was supported. So rather than placing the burden on the artists themselves alone I think people are looking out for that type of support and normalisation from all sides, so that that type of environment or safe space can grow to allow more idols to express themselves...right now mostly international audiences react positively so idols can get away with certain concepts and things they wouldn't be able to do otherwise with majority domestic audience. Tilt to me felt Iike an honest to god fever dream like Seulrene were really leaning into what they know reveluvs like or want to see from the subunit and I'm glad they were comfortable enough to contribute and put out a concept like that. There really were elements that had a personal touch. Even if SM did have concerns about how strong a concept it was, I think if they weren't in some way ok with putting it forward then it wouldn't have happened. Surely they must know RV have a big LGBT audience. So really, I'm more curious about where Aseul will go from here, if they would ever push the envelope even more since you don't really have female artists as a duo doing these types of things in their space.

I can see that certain things are changing with some groups and even with that bg member being able to come out and his members supporting him. I thought the same as you because the first roll out teaser for TILT I was like, hm yeah maybe they will play with the twins concept again. But when that red background teasers dropped, oh my god. I thought to myself, am I dreaming?? Are they really going to be this brave?? Because let's be real, they are not from nugu group, and this type of concept from duo/subunit has never been done before, at least from KPOP. We as fans can only support them the best that we can.

Anyway, throwback to this moment because it's adorable how Seulgi smiled widely after Irene said thank you. That poor crumpled paper bag surviving the gay force



In other videos of Seulgi with her friends (even with her girl fans like Gyuri lol), Seulgi never behaved this way. She only does this when she is with Irene, getting shy or smile brightly like she is proud for making her girl happy.

These great conversations made me remember something. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Seulgi some years ago say she wanted to show us a different side of herself when she was 30 because thats when she would have the courage to do it? I think the translation was "bad side" which I thought was weird but idk if it was accurate. Well I think thats exactly what she's doing, even with BnB there were already signs of it. The song Whatever comes to mind. Even Irene with LaF being all about courage and her on bubble telling the fans "we should live our lives boldly and with courage" (or something like that) sometime before the cb.

I also think them having such a big lgbt following gave them the push they needed to do something like this bc they knew a lot of people would still love and support them amidst all the potential backlash.

The 30's really change you as a person and I think we can see that clearly here. They were incredibly brave for putting out a concept like this and I will be forever proud of having them as my biases.
