If there's anyone here that followed it more closely they can respond but she's an extrovert who's very friendly so I didn't take the fanservice to mean more than it is. Of course that doesn't mean she can't like girls too but In the end I was more surprised that a dating reveal for them happened so soon.

Yeah I was surprised about that too. Aespa are still at their peak so I was fully expecting a denial. I guess she unfortunately got caught at the worst possible moment that's why they couldn't go the denial route.

Since we're on this topic I feel like a lot of young fans in kpop have a hard time differentiating between just fanservice vs actually possibility of idols being gay/wlw.

I think it's interesting that RV is one of those groups where every single member is important enough to the group that when one of them is missing, it's really noticeable. For instance, when Joy was missing from the tour, the other girls filled in really admirably but to me her absence was still felt because she has such a sweet tone to her voice and it was clearly missing in the songs. Also her character and the way she interacts with the other members, being part of the evil maknae line, makes their group dynamic a lot more fun.

It's not always like that for other groups, though. I follow ITZY and they've had an entire comeback with a member - their main vocalist, mind you - on long-term hiatus. To be honest, I don't see or hear any impact on their music and performance at all. If anything, the remaining four members can perform even better because she was never a strong dancer. Even their comeback content doesn't seem to feel her absence, if you know what I mean. It's strange and sad to think that her absence doesn't make much of a difference to the group.

I cannot imagine the same being said for RV. We all know the group would fall apart without Seulgi or Irene. However awful Wanda is, her voice is an integral part of RV's sound. Joy's tone is unique and Yeri brings such a brightness to the group. Even if Yeri is checking out of SM to pursue acting, I do hope she still keeps a contract for group activities like the EXO guys did.

You're right and the more they continue to do it is the more LGBT fans become seen as an embarrassment. It's turning into open season against anyone who dare think their fave might be not straight.

You're right and the more they continue to do it is the more LGBT fans become seen as an embarrassment. It's turning into open season against anyone who dare think their fave might be not straight.

Yeah that's an unfortunate truth. For young fans I think they find it difficult to identify what's just fanservice because idols tend to be a lot more open minded and speak up more compared to previous gens. Like upto 3rd gen I know there were ships who fans were convinced were real but at least that resulted from legitimate speculation. Nowadays it's more like "that idol looks gay". The fans themselves are young so they don't really have enough life experiences to identify signs, specially about people from a homophobic society. Moreover, as a long term kpop fan I'm seeing a lot of rising homophobia in kpop circles tbh and that's not helping lgbt fans when an idol's dating life is getting revealed
