Da i don't know what's going on in her personal life, but i think the backlash about the concept and then the trucks freaked Irene out. Seulgi not backing down about staying true to what she thinks represents Aseul shows they are incompatible creatively, i thought back then that Irene wouldn't risk it again.

Sa I saw that subbed YST on YT and she did mention that although conceptual albums were all good they didn’t felt like hers so your theory makes sense. That’s probably why they’re in a rough patch right now.

I'm one of the anons that saw Seulgi's Pinterest board for Monster and I can tell you that it's clear she wants to convey a certain message, atleast for that concept she was; she has pins added in that board. About Tilt though, I thought I can't imagine them not discussing it beforehand and Irene did green light it otherwise she wouldn't have done it again no? If this clip is even about that why would she suddenly change her mind.. If it is a nudge at Aseul then I'm also on the the team that thinks the trucks got her scared but I also don't want to excuse her behaviour for distancing herself.

wow I didn't realize she was speaking specifically about aseul here /s and it's not even that she was criticising the concepts themselves she said the conceptual albums are all good. they're given a script they have to memorize when explaining them and that can be awkward, but biggest fan has been more comfortable since she was able to contribute directly to the lyrics and narrative of the whole thing. I don't see what's wrong with that?

Da i would say Tilt is ahead of time. Korea can't accept this kind of concept yet. I get it why biggest fan is easier to be explain because it is indeed easier to make people understand. They barely said anything about Tilt's concept back then. And now we can see other groups are using Tilt as their reference. Many try to the same concept after aseul did. It is always harder to be the first. They really could get serious backlash back then but they survived. And i think that's what matter the most. Their efforts won't go wasted and definitely encouraging others too. They path the way.

Da if we can all be honest and not see things through a biased lens, aseul was always an outlier in that company. It’s the only shitm IP has that is coded as “gay”. Nothing else in their musical lineup is. That’s a big burden to carry, bc they can’t be too this or too that, being the only gay coded unit means being held to impossible standards that the straights don’t have to deal with. Shitm is just more conservative in general compared to the other big 4 too.

Plus monster did huge numbers, tilt had less sales and the MV views weren’t great. Maybe if tilt had sold some crazy high number and the MV was rly viral the company could’ve looked the other way and said the controversy and reactions were worth it for the money, but it’s obvious the unit is now seen as a liability for the company’s clean branding. If you had Wendy talking to one of the high ups about how it was too much, I can’t imagine what was said behind closed doors. We’ll see but I already knew to lower my expectations and they’d have to tone down w/e when the oyster controversy happened. All that said I’m still excited and I’m just glad they’re still allowing them to do a unit after everything.

I'm realistic, if they don't have a man in there it'll be a win. The backlash wasn't small, it was huge to the point fans were afraid the comeback would be canceled. Plus a part of Irene's fanbase that is clearly important to her and SM were unhappy and made it known, like you said the fact that it's happening is already a miracle.
By the way, are we supposed to not talk about the elephant in the room and whatever seems to be happening between them?
